The Walker Story

Our History

The roots of The Walker Company can be traced to 1933 when Arthur E. "Easy" Walker formed a partnership with his father and brother. It was named A.W. Walker & Son. The partnership purchased a parcel of land and opened the White Rock Mountain Quarry, producing crushed limestone products.

Although locations and names have changed, The Walker Company has continuously engaged in the production of construction materials since it opened the White Rock Mountain Quarry in the 1930's. Today, The Walker Company's production operations include ownership interests in and operation of four quarries, two bituminous hot-mix asphalt plants and one ready-mix asphalt concrete plant.

Over the last six decades, The Walker Company has engaged in many facets of material production (link to manufactured materials), highway contracting (link to civil contracting) and commercial building construction (link to general contracting) throughout Central and Eastern Kentucky. The company's projects range from construction of roads, bridges and highways to new building construction, parks and golf courses.

From its inception, The Walker Company has remained a family-owned and operated company with the fourth generation of Walkers now involved in the business. The Walker's mission remains in effect today:

"To provide the customer with a product of the highest quality in the timeliest manner employing local people while maintaining corporate integrity and profitability."

Proving our point: things change; quality stays the same.
