History of The
Walker Company
The roots of The Walker Company can be traced to
1933 when Arthur E. (Easy) Walker formed a partnership with
his father and brother named A.W. Walker & Son. This
partnership purchased a parcel of land where it opened the
White Rock Mountain Quarry and produced crushed limestone
products. This acquisition was the beginning of what The
Walker Company is today.
Although several of the
locations and names have changed, The Walker Company has
continuously engaged in the production of construction
materials since it opened the White Rock Mountain Quarry in
the 1930’s. Today, The Walker Company’s production operations
include ownership interests in and operation of five quarries,
two bituminous hot-mix asphalt plants and one ready-mix
asphalt concrete plant.
Over the last six decades, The
Walker Company has engaged in many facets of material
production, highway contracting and commercial building
construction throughout central and eastern Kentucky. The
company’s projects range from construction of highways to new
building construction, parks and golf
courses.
From its inception, The Walker Company
has remained a family-owned and operated company with the
fourth generation of Walkers now involved in the operation of
the company. Yesterday’s mission of Easy Walker remains in
effect today…provide the customer with a product of the
highest quality in the timeliest manner employing local people
and profitability will
benefit.
